Bio

Roxanne Wolanczyk Portrait

Roxanne Wolanczyk’s work continues a lineage she was born into. Raised in the downtown New York art world of the 1970s by second-wave feminist artists, she grew up amid the ideals of the Feminist Art Institute, where her mother was an educator. Immersed in that environment, Wolanczyk absorbed the values of feminist pedagogy, symbolic language, and spiritual inquiry that continue to inform her work. Educated at Pratt Institute in the 1990s, she developed her practice within a climate that bridged feminist art’s legacy with new explorations of identity. In addition to her studio practice, Wolanczyk works as a psychotherapist, a role that deepens her engagement with consciousness, transformation, and the complexities of the human condition.

Wolanczyk earned her BFA in Sculpture from Pratt Institute and her Master of Social Work from Hunter College. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at venues including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Bronx Museum, the New York State Museum, and galleries such as Pierogi, PS122, and Art in General, and most recently at the Wassaic Project. It has been reviewed by Robert C. Morgan for Tema Celeste and noted on several occasions in The New York Times. Wolanczyk has also received funding from the New York State Council on the Arts.
